Kiyomi Sato is Japan born, NY educated designer, who now resides in TX, USA. As a designer, other than typography, she has a great love for science. She enjoys creating art and design for the biopharmaceutical industry, as well as many individual scientists in the world. Her initial fascination for creativity and science began in her childhood. Her father is an electrical engineer, and she often enjoyed operating her father's hand-made toy airplane on the banks of the local River in Japan. She bought her first Mac computer when she was in high school, and since then, she has been constantly improving her skills as an artist and designer. Drawing also helped her ability to understand the visual structure of the things she learned in anatomy and microbiology labs. With her deep appreciation for science and unique approach to design, she is naturally attentive to fine details and embraces each client's specific needs.

MAKING TYPEFACE

When making Typeface, I begin with manual sketching and drawing before working with the computer. There is something about working with my own hand, holding different pen nibs, stroking, and manipulating the image on paper that will eventually result in a high degree of precision in the final product.

FROM THE LAB TO PRINT

Perhaps it is fair to say that science and art don't mix...but it is also true that the essential nature of both is a primal pursuit of the unknown.
